Argyll Presbytery appoints Mr Stewart Shaw as its next Presbytery Clerk
Argyll Presbytery has appointed Mr Stewart Shaw as its Presbytery Clerk Designate. Stewart was educated at Rothesay Academy before going on to study at Glasgow University where he gained a BSc Honours degree in Mathematics. A dedicated teacher, Stewart taught at Largs Academy, Rothesay Academy and finally was Head Teacher at Dunoon Grammar School from2008 till 2013.
Stewart is also very committed in his work for the Church and was ordained an elder in 1984. He was appointed Session Clerk at the United Church of Bute in 2003 and served in this office till 2010. Stewart became Presbytery Elder in 2013 and is a member of the Business Committee and the Superintendence Committee. In his own church, Stewart serves on the Stewardship and Finance Committee and is Property Convenor.
In other areas of his life, Stewart is Deputy Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute with responsibility for Bute. He is past President and Secretary of the Rotary Club of Rothesay. Stewart is a keen singer and is a member of the Ballianlay Choir. He is a Trustee of the James John Wilkie Almshouse Trust.
Stewart has been involved in mediation and counseling courses and has used these skills of negotiation and consultation throughout his life. Stewart has much experience with Church legislation, Finance procedures, Safeguarding and Vacancy procedures and Health and Safety. Stewart’s other interests include cooking, reading, golfing, public speaking (with a particular love for Burns!) and gardening (providing it isn’t raining!).
We are delighted to welcome Stewart as our next Presbytery Clerk, starting probably at the beginning of July 2018, and wish him God’s blessing as he assumes this important role in our Presbytery
