Lockdown Christmas in Argyll – Tiree Parish Church
Our next story is from the Isle of Tiree. Following an initiative from Tiree Community Development Trust to light up the island for Christmas, Tiree Parish Church was approached and gladly accepted the invitation to participate in the event. Those who have visited Tiree will already be familiar with the Christmas Tree especially designed to allow the wind to pass through it without it falling over! As you head along the B0865 towards Struthan Terrace, the lit tree emerges from a considerable distance away as there is little light pollution to compete. It has been a beacon of light on Tiree for many years.
This year the idea of a light trail was extended to include public landmarks and the Parish Church was delighted to be involved. The church is located at Heylipol crossroads and is a significant landmark in the locality which can be seen for many miles. The church gates were festooned with lights which acted as welcome reminder that despite all that was happening with the pandemic, the church was a place of light.
