New Presbytery Clerk Appointed
The Presbytery of Argyll is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Presbytery Clerk. Dr Christopher Brett, who is 62, has an academic background with a PhD in Biochemistry. At present Chris works with Scripture Union Scotland and is involved in training, deploying and supporting over 2000 volunteers. He has a significant pastoral role, especially with respect to younger volunteers, and oversees Child Protection for SU Scotland.
Chris has an Episcopalian background but also worships regularly at Kames Church in Tighnabruaich. He has been a Lay Reader since 1989 in St Silas’ Episcopal Church, Glasgow and since 2010, he has been Chair of Vestry (The Vestry are the Charity Trustees who look after the property and financial affairs of the church). He has a good working relationship with the Church of Scotland through his contacts in his work with SU and through the Scottish Churches Safeguarding committee.
Gained by practice and experience, Chris is accustomed to applying general legal provisions to church situations. His references reflect a man with spiritual maturity, long experience of leadership in both church and professional settings and a proven track record in terms of organisation and administration. He shows sound judgement and discernment, is a patient listener and is a man of the utmost integrity.
When Chris relaxes he enjoys walking, sailing, biology, history – and cooking for large numbers of people.
We are pleased to welcome him to the Presbytery.
